Photoshop can be a great tool. It can take away blemishes, and it can take an average photo and make it look professional.
However, there is a point in our opinion, especially with portraits, that the tool can be overused. If your face starts to look like Pinocchio you may want to ask for a little less photoshop. I'm not talking about the nose getting bigger though. I'm talking about your skin looking like it's plastic, or wood, or lets just say - FAKE! If that is what you are wanting, then by all means. At Wilkerson Studios we do use Photoshop to touch up images, but we only use it to a point, and sometimes we don't use it at all - just depends on the image. If it makes the picture look better, then great. If not, then our philosophy is to leave it alone. There's much beauty in the human body. God created it. So let's not make it look fake.

I'm sitting here putting the finishing touches on a wedding video, and I find myself caught up in the father's speech. This father in particular, is very emotional. Tears come pretty easily, and his deep love for his daughter is so evident. I remember being there filming it and thinking to myself, "this is exactly how I am going to be when my daughters get married."
Not all fathers cry. Some do a good job of hiding their emotion. :) But when the emotion comes out, being able to capture that on video is so precious. Pictures just can't do that. Sure you can get a picture of someone crying, but does that REALLY capture the emotion completely? I don't think so. Wow, this father sure is sweet, and I'm very lucky to have captured this moment. Jim Wilkerson Here is the wedding recap for Rachel & Kevin Tavarczky! The ceremony was at St. John's Lutheran Church in Decatur, Illinois and the reception was at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth, Illinois. Congrats you guys!
Even though a wedding video is just as important as photos, we admit, it isn't as quickly thought-of as the photos are. It's still a relatively new thing considering how long photography has been around.
So, sometimes people will try to save money by asking a friend or relative to shoot their wedding video. Here are a few reasons why you may not want to do that:
These are just a few of the main reasons you should stray away from hiring a friend to do your wedding video. Your wedding happens once. Do your wedding video right, and have it professionally done. You won't regret it. Here is the wedding recap for Zach Tish and Jacki Busing. It was a great day for a great couple! The wedding was at First Lutheran Church in Decatur, Illinois and the reception was at the Mt. Zion Convention Center.
Congrats, seniors! You only have one more year of high school and then it's onto even more exciting things! It's that time of year - when the senior photos start heating up, and Wilkerson Studios is here to help you capture those great images. If you are in the Central Illinois area, we have a great package that we think you'll love. Just hop on over to our Seniors Page and check it out! In the meantime, check out our latest senior photo recap for Laura Hauge of Mt. Zion! Jim & Stephanie When a young couple meets with us, the conversations can vary from a wide range of topics. Sometimes it stays on topic – their wedding day. But other times we get to talking about life and whatnot. Occasionally the topic of where to live will come up. As there are some couples who seek to move outside of Decatur, many choose to remain here and build their life here. But WHERE in Decatur should they live? And who should they go with to list their home? There are a number of realtors in town, but as with photography, we recommend going with someone with EXPERIENCE! Brinkoetter has been doing this (buying/selling homes) for around 50 years now. They know a thing or two! So, young couples, if you need a solid agent to find that perfect dream home, then we recommend you taking a look at a couple of sites: www.brinkoetter.com (the main site) www.decaturhometalk.com (Carla Brinkoetter’s blog – she’s the President!) There is also a very talented agent on staff there, named Lisa Vieweg. Years ago her last name used to be Wilkerson. (She's Jim's sister!) So hit up Brinkoetter and hit up Lisa! Happy home hunting! Jim & Stephanie Wilkerson Know anyone getting married? Send them our way and know that their special day will be covered by a husband and wife team who truly care about what their clients want - not what the photographer wants! You'l be sending them to a team who has shot over 200 weddings in the last 13 years.
For us, it's not about photography awards or peer approval - it's all about the customer. What you want is done, every time. It's your special day, and we never forget that. Want photography? Want video? We do both. We have three different photography and video packages to fit any budget, including copyright-released photos on disc. We grew up using photographers who would charge for every little thing they did, every single pose, every single change....that's just not the way we believe in doing things. When you get a Wilkerson Studios wedding package you will get every photo we take. Why not? It's YOUR special day, not our's. And if you want us to make the prints, not a problem! We go through professional labs at reasonable rates. But if you want to print them yourself, you have that capability as well. We are not printers. We are photographers. So we don't overcharge for prints. You're paying us for our skill and our creativity and that's what you'll get. So if you know someone getting married, please send them our way. And share this post if you would, to help us get the word out. Thank you for your support! God Bless, Jim & Stephanie Wilkerson Wilkerson Studios It's always great to see people excited for their pictures or video. Yes, we do get paid for our work, but part of that payment is seeing people happy. Check out the Koch family in this video, as they get their new 20x30 canvas gallery wrap! The Venue While some of these trade places with each other depending on the occasion, these are the top things that most couples invest in for their wedding. Photography & Video can be more expensive than some people think. Depending who you go with, you'll find packages ranging from $500 to $3,000-$4,000K right here in Central Illinois! One of the things we have done to make things easier on couples, is to offer copyright-released CD/DVD's of your photos. This allows you to have your pictures printed wherever you want. Growing up, Stephanie and I never really liked how some photographers would charge for proofs, and only give you a certain number of poses. It just never seemed like a good way of doing business. So we cut right through that. When you book us for your wedding, you will get ALL of the photos we take. If you paid us to take them, then you should get them. That's our philosophy. This saves you more money than you think! Of course if you want, we can get prints made for you as well. But that's up to you. It's YOUR choice! Best Wishes & God Bless! Jim Wilkerson |
